Developmental Transitions in Respiratory Physiology

This symposium will examine the changes in respiratory dynamics that occur
with the transitions associated with ontogeny.

The respiratory systems of animals are dynamic morphological and
physiological systems that undergo significant changes during development to
meet the metabolic needs of the growing animal.   Major respiratory
transitions occur as an animal moves from the egg/fetal/larval stage of life
to the neonate/juvenile stage.  We will examine how the respiratory needs of
oviparous and viviparous species are met during these transitions and how
they deal with environmental stress.
